3 Self Care Tips: Solutions to Common Struggles for Entrepreneurs

Naturally, entrepreneurs are under a lot of stress. However, how you respond and cope with stress can have a significant impact on your health and well-being. Stress can affect your mood, your ability to sleep at night, and your ability to concentrate. There are many reasons entrepreneurs allow self-care to fall to the wayside, but you do not have to do so the same. XL Consulting Group explains how.

You Have No Time to Work Out

When entrepreneurs become overworked, exercise is one of the first pieces of their lifestyle that they cut out. If you worry about having time, Benefits Canada notes that one of the first steps you should take is to create a routine and ritual to follow. When you have a routine, it is easier to find ways to make it to the gym or to exercise. For example, if you want to jog in the morning, your entire morning routine should lead to the moment you go for your jog.

Schedule your exercise how you would do any critical event. If you can schedule business calls and family time, you can arrange a time to work out. According to the Canadian Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines, every person should have 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week. While this may sound like a lot of time, you can take 30 minutes out of your day, five times a week, to achieve that amount of exercise.

You Struggle With Relaxation

Like most entrepreneurs, you probably think about your business all day, every day. If you do not relax, however, you’re going to worry yourself sick or burn out. Fortunately, there are stress-relief techniques. If you have trouble sleeping, for instance, you may want to try meditation. Meditation allows your mind and body to relax using simple breathing techniques.

Reiki is another technique for stress reduction. A practitioner lays hands on an invisible life force energy. It may help you feel at peace and invoke feelings of well-being. Another simple way to relieve stress is to listen to music. The right tunes can create a more relaxing environment and block negative thoughts.

Finally, a messy, cluttered home will only contribute to feelings of stress and negativity. Make an appointment with yourself to clean your home from top to bottom, and to incorporate organisation strategies that add a sense of calm. A few plants, some candles and some new decor can also help. What’s important is that your home feels like the sanctuary you need after a crazy day at the office.

Your Business Occupies Too Much of Your Mind

To reduce stress about your business, think about choosing a DBA, meaning a “doing business as” name. When you create a DBA name for your company, you can branch out with different products or services that don’t directly fit your brand. Likewise, you can use a DBA name if your business name is not available for a domain.

Keep in mind that you cannot do everything yourself. Many entrepreneurs struggle with too many responsibilities for one person. You need to learn how to allow others to take some of the obligations off your plate. Do not wait until you feel burnt out at work. Instead, be proactive with delegation. Make a list of all of the tasks you need to do. Figure out which members of your staff may be able to handle various jobs the best. Let people help you before you feel you are spread too thin and can no longer care for yourself. Delegation not only gives you a break but it enables you to save time.

As an entrepreneur, you need to take time for yourself. Take breaks to work out and remember that if you don’t relax, you may hurt your productivity in the future. Engaging in self-care can ultimately lead to a stronger work ethic, helping your business as well as yourself.

We hope these self care tips will help you clairfy your business direction and put you on the right path for a successful business.
